L
inda Barrett says it seems she has always been writing something, be it poems, family stories or resumes. "It wasn't until I moved to Houston, however, that I was able to focus on structuring a novel. Having Love, Money and Amanda Shaw (her first published novel) accepted by Harlequin Supperromance is a dream come true," she says.
Linda admits she has spent almost as much time writing for her own enjoyment as she's spent in her full-time professional life. The personal memoirs she's written, featuring her immediate world of family, have also given immense pleasure to those she loves.
Currently as the Director of Adult Education with a non-profit community service agency, she enlists the support of her husband, Michael, to help balance her time and energy. "What this really means is that we eat whatever we can scrounge up--you can put anything on a bagel--and clean the house at some point during the week for one frantic hour. Mike can handle that vacuum like a pro," she adds.
When she's not writing a novel or visiting children, she teaches GED subjects to homeless adults, most of whom view reading as a chore rather than a pleasure. When her students graduate and receive their diplomas, they also receive a copy of her latest book…autographed, of course, by their favorite teacher! |
