he year is 1470, and Lady Meiriona is the pawn in a deadly political power match between the house of Lancaster and the house of York . The book opens with a bang as Meiriona prepares to betray her Yorkist bridegroom and the King who ordered her betrothal. Unable to defy her father, Meiriona begs him to spare the life of the bastard warlord, for she's seen too much of death. Godric of Montgomery, however, is anything but grateful after he's sold into slavery.

Seven long years pass before Godric wins his freedom, but he's not forgotten Meiriona's treachery. Now the father of a bastard daughter sired in captivity, Godric is determined to provide a home and a future for his child. To do that, he seeks retribution for the actions perpetrated by Lady Meiriona and her father. So he steals what is rightfully his by order of the King: Meiriona.

This story is packed with action, adventure, and sexual tension. But that's not all. Despite the seemingly overwhelming conflict between Meiriona and Godric, there are moments of absolute hilarity. If that's not enough to send you to the bookstore, here's the best part of all: two wonderful lead characters you will root for from page one. Oh, and did I forget to mention how skillfully the author draws the reader into the setting?

A Perfect 10 to this fabulous debut from Jessica Trapp.
